Israel Oliver King. E.D. Dr. Oliver is currenly heading the team that works on promoting NRM and Livelihoods in the Kolli Hills with the project support of NABARD. Biography of Dr. E.D. Israel Oliver King He is a Principal Scientist and Site Coordinator in M. S. Swaminathan Research Foundation and stationed in 42 B2, PVR Street, Mohanur Road,Namakkal 637 001Phone - 04286+24499E-mail: ediok151173@ gmail.com, mssrfnam@sancharnet.in. Dr. E.D. Israel Oliver King is a trained botanist. His PhD is on the Sacred forest systems in Kolli Hills of Eastern ghats in India, which documented the Botany, Ecology and community interactions and Community based management strategies for Sacred forests. Over the last decade, he has worked extensively in the grassroots on various Natural resources with in tribal and agararian communities in Tamil Nadu. Currently at the M.S.Swaminthan Research Foundation, he facilitates project on Conservation and sustainable use of Millet Landraces in participation with the Malayali Tribals at Kolli Hills, Tamil Nadu. The project has worked out innovative community based models for conservation and sustainable use of natural resources, particularly landraces, which are rapidly disappearing due to the erosion of traditional knowledge. He also provides his expertise to the government of Tamil Nadu by participating in various Advisory Committees in the areas of Community conservation, Non-conventional Energy, Pollution control, Tribals Welfare. He also serves as a National expert in Centre of Excellence on Ecological Heritage sites-Sacred Forests in Environmental Information Systems (ENVIS) node. He has monographs / books and several research papers published in Journals and proceedings of seminars / conferences and online publications to his credit. His varied interests include community based conservation education and understanding folk arts and traditions, visual documentation and environmental friendly tourism.
